Anti-terrorist task force agent John Corey is in pursuit of another big cat, The Panther. Having killed the terrorist known as The Lion, he and his wife, FBI agent Kate Mayfield, are assigned the job of tracking down and eliminating the terrorist known as the Panther. Surprised when they are given this assignment, they soon realize that the government intends to use them as bait, since The Panther has sworn to find and kill them in retaliation for John’s killing The Lion. John had already been to Yemen investigating the U.S.S. Cole bombings so his return to The Panther’s home country appears reasonable. When John and Kate are required to undergo cultural sensitivity training before their departure for Yemen their teacher is Buckminster Harris or Buck, who is later revealed to be a senior operative with many years of experience in covert operations. Portia Nathan’s territory as an admissions officer for Princeton University has been changed from the laid back high schools of the West Coast to the elite and often stodgy schools of New England, forcing her to alter her wardrobe as well as her expectations as she visits schools, answering questions and soliciting applications to Princeton. Even a change of wardrobe doesn't prepare her for Quest Academy, though. Instead of expounding on the benefits of attending Princeton, she finds herself defending the value of higher education of any sort. Strangely, rather than becoming ...

Detective Abbie Kearney is called to the scene of a grisly murder in the parish church in her old Buffalo neighborhood. The area, called the 27th county (Ireland has 26 counties) because of all the Irish who live there, is referred to locally as simply "The County." Fiercely loyal to their Irish heritage and to each other the residents close ranks when outsiders try to infiltrate their insular community. Although she was raised there, as the adopted daughter of storied police officer, John Kearney, Abbie is regarded as an outsider because of her birth parents’ shortcomings and because she dared to leave the neighborhood to attend Harvard and came back to assume a position in law enforcement, an area that residents consider to be a man’s domain. While she is not of The County, she understands The County and when a ...

Expecting to find tranquility and security at their summer residence in Newburgh, the Bennetts are shocked to find ...

In this sixteenth Inspector Rebus novel, set in 2005 at the G8 summit meeting near Edinburgh, Scotland, a Member of Parliament turns up dead outside Edinburgh Castle -- an apparent suicide. Or is it? Then another body is found, in a place called the Clootie Well. This is a spot where people over the years have left clothing draped over tree branches for luck, or to appease the fairy folk. Clues point to the possibility of a serial killer. Add to that the violent protests against the G8 summit, and Detective Inspector Rebus has his hands full, even if his superiors weren’t doing their best to keep him off the case. After all, Rebus is a known troublemaker approaching retirement age and his boss doesn’t want him around to mess things up. The result is that ...
