Thread: Boston to DC

  1. Default Boston to DC

Hi folks-first time Aussie users here! We are planning a 4 day drive from Boston to DC in late May and would appreciate advice on the most scenic route to take, sights and attractions along the way, and recommended stopping points. We will probably bypass NYC as we've been there before but keen on other places to see/stay. Thanks for your help.

    Default For starters.

Welcome to the Great American Roadtrip Forum.

Firstly there is nothing like a good map or two to see what is available to you. Good paper maps are invaluable during the planning process and essential when on the road. They show so much more than is possible within the confines of a small screen. I highly recommend that you get yourself a Rand McNally road atlas of the US. Probably the most widely used. It is available over the internet from a place in Melbourne. Complete with postage it is less than getting it from overseas, and you'll have it in a few days.

You don't mention where you are, but I would also suggest that you pack your automobile club membership (RACV, NRMA, etc.) as that will give you access to free maps and tourism information from the AAA anywhere in the US. There are several offices in Boston.

Although I drive into and out of Boston several times most years, my trips are no longer for sightseeing and depend greatly on my time allowance and final destination (which is no longer DC). So I will leave it up to others to fill in those blanks for you. Once you have the maps, you will be able to see exactly the routes suggested.

    Default One Option

Getting from Boston to Washington could entail one of the worst drives in America, down the eponymously named BosWash Corridor on I-95 in a single day. Or it could be a remarkably scenic multi-day RoadTrip to some interesting sites. One such enjoyable trip is described here, but there are other possibilities as well. We can be of greater help to you if you shared with us some of what interests you, what balance you'd like to strike between driving and out-of-car activities, or if you already have an idea or two of your own in mind.
