Welcome to the RTA Forum!
There are basically 3 routes that are all basically the same distance (+/- 50 miles).
I-15 to I-80, through Salt Lake and then straight east through Wyoming, Chicago, etc.
I-15 to I-70 to Denver - then either cut up to I-80 via I-76 or take I-70 all the way out to Columbus Ohio.
Go down to I-40 in Arizona then across to I-44 to I-70 through OK City, St. Louis, and Columbus
All of these trips are roughly 2100 miles, so you're looking at 7-8 hours a day on the road to do this in 5 days. That's quite easy in a car, but that will be pretty tough on a motorcycle. I hope you have some iron butt experience.
Thanks! I was thinking of the last route. I do have some iron butt experience and was thinking of doing part of this trip as a Saddlesore 1000 under the auspices of the Iron Butt Association.
Trying to do a 1000 mile drive in one sitting really falls under the category of pretty darn stupid around here. If you are hell-bent on doing something like that, you should do it in a one shot effort where you have all day to rest for at least one or two days before and after. Trying to do such a drive as a part of a cross country trip is a recipe for disaster.
Note that I-15/I-70/I-71 is the only route that does not involve any toll roads.
