Heading to LA via Vegas!

Hello everyone!
First time poster here. Great site.
A friend of mine and I are couriering a car from NYC to Los Angeles, with a stop at Vegas in between).
I've done the cross country before, but am I need of suggestions.
I love the desert. Monument Valley and south Utah I hear are gorgeous?
Back country, good old crazy roadside stuff.

Any ideas?
Any suggestions on how much it'll cost me in gas and tolls?

When you're talking about a cross country trip, it is always difficult to start throwing out ideas of places. The canvas is just too big and the options are too endless. The places you've listed are all good choices, and that's a start, but you might simply start by pulling out a map and get an idea of places you'd like to go.

The amount of money a trip will cost is always depended upon the time you take and how you travel, but for fuel costs specifically, the Calculator linked to on the left side of the screen should help you come up with a good estimate.

If you take I-80 out of NYC all the way to Ohio, then I-76 and I-71 to Columbus to pick up I-70, the only tolls will be whatever it costs you to get out of NYC, then $2.15 between Kansas City and Topeka. If the car gets 20 mpg, figure about $400 for gas.
