Road trip from California to Baltimore!!

Hi,

I just discovered this site, as I am planning my first road trip from California to Maryland in mid-August. It sounds like it will most likely take approximately 5 days without stopping. However, I would like to take small stops along the way for interesting sites, eateries, etc. From past experience/knowledge, would the 5 days be adequate enough for taking small breaks along the way? I was planning on taking the middle route, hitting Utah and Colorado, as I heard the weather during this time of year is too hot to be driving in? I would really appreciate it if anyone had any suggestions, recommendations?? THANKS!!

You should be able to make the drive in 5 days, but where in the state you are starting from will determine how much time for extra things you'll have time for.

As far as it being "too hot too drive" let me simply ask you this: Do you know of anywhere where life simply stops and people don't get around for several months of the year? (Honestly, I'm used to asking that to people who think its not safe to drive in the northern US in winter, but its the same principal.) You do need to take a couple extra precautions in hot weather, like making sure your cooling system is working correctly, bringing drinking water just in case, etc, but there is no part of the US you need to avoid because of the time of year.

Thanks for the replies! I will be departing from Los Angeles, CA to Baltimore.

I am looking at stopping at some of the National Parks along the way (Arches, Zion, Bryce) and would love to see cool things along the way!

If you want to see Zion, Bryce, and Arches, you will need more than just 5 days.
