Oklahoma City to San Francisco

Hello everybody!
With some friends I'm planning a roadtrip for the upcoming spring break, and we're looking for some good -and cheap!- places to stay in San Francisco, LA and Las Vegas.
What areas of these cities would you recommend not to stay? We're four girls and we would like to feel safe.

Moreover, do you have any general reccomendations, since it is our first roadtrip ever?

For Hotels and reviews, I would recommend sites such as Tripadvisor and Expedia as we have too few regular contributors here to offer much in the way of lodging options, but you might get lucky ! In San Fran you can find some reasonably priced options around the Lombard/Gough St area that is reasonably close to 'Fishermans Wharf' and transport into the City. Usually the City centre is going to be more expensive [unless it's a dump] so look for areas with a good transport link close by in a nice area. [Googling will tell you what you need to know] Vegas always has deals going as they compete for your dollar.

Generally when travelling just use that 'built in radar' where your common sense, like at home, tells you when things don't feel right. If you get that feeling when travelling, trust your instincts and move on.

If you want any help advice with your road trip then just ask. If you are driving from Oky then you should allow a minimum of 3 days for the journey to SF. If you can spare a night or 2 on the way to LA you could travel down the world famous and very scenic Pacific coast Highway

AirBnB is the best choice for SF and many other obviously expensive places to live or stay. I am having a hard time deciding on which flat to stay at!! I have read frugal traveling articles and was happy to hear of a daddy and toddler having the best time at one.. Having 2 toddlers I really know how pleasant a kitchen is to use.. I look for that but there are all types. I was looking into driving down to LA so I found ammmmaazing places near the smaller coastal towns that where just out of this world naturally gorgeous!! But we deciding to take the Coast Starlight train down instead ( our son is almost 4, but it was only like 127 for 2 adults, 1 child and our 1.5 yr old is free) . Anyway, airbnb.. Most awesome idea for reserved lodging.. Some places have minimum stay policies and the refunds are different for each person.. I would be sure.. Something we are having a slight problem with, but we still really want to try it.
