  1. Default L.A. to Oklahoma City

    Hi everyone!

I'm planning my first solo road trip on October 1st. I'm leaving Los Angeles and moving to Oklahoma City to attend school, and I'm taking my 1 and 1/2 year old English bulldog along with me. Most of the way I'll be taking Route 40, which passes through Flagstaff, Albuquerque and Amarillo.

So here's my question: If you've taken this route before in early fall, can you tell me what the weather conditions were like? The reason I ask is that my dog is prone to hyperthermia. He's very sensitive to heat. If it's in the 80s or low 90s most of the way, I can probably keep him cool with the air conditioner and by giving him plenty of cool water and ice cubes. But if it's hotter than that, then I think I'll have to forget about the trip until later in the year.

    Your advice?

I don't think you'll see temperatures hotter than in the 90s on that route at that time of year. That's not to say it can't happen, but I think it would be highly unlikely.

We also have a page that details traveling with pets in the Summer, as well as this page which you may find more useful.
