Yet Another West Coast Loop Trip - Edmonton to California and Back - 24 Days

Some updates:

Planning is going pretty well.
Campsites are all booked except for one. Joshua Tree is booked for my date fully, no matter how hard I tried yesterday (the first day reservations opened).

Campgrounds booked:
Sunset Bay State Park, OR
Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park, Ca
Mather Campground, Grand Canyon NP
Watchman Campground, Zion NP
Madison Campground, Yellowstone NP

Any one have suggestions on what to do in Joshua Tree. I really had my heart set on camping here. Probably more than any other NP other than Zion. Indian Cove and Black Rock were both booked :(. I know there are lots of other campgrounds in Joshua Tree but they are all first come first serve.

What are my chances of getting a spot at a First come first served? Any suggestions for a backup plan?

Try for a first come first served, and if you aren't successful, there are tons of motels within a reasonable driving distance from the park.

There are also some BLM "overflow" campgrounds in/near the park and backcountry camping is also allowed. These will have zero facilities and you have to pack in and out.
