Georgia to Maine in 9 1/2 Days

I am planning to take a road trip up the East Coast the last week in September. We (my boyfriend an I, both 27) will be starting in Georgia and hope to make it as far as we can up the East Coast (and back) in 9 and a half days. If we don't make it all the way up to Maine, that's ok, but we definitely want to see New England. Any suggestions of towns to visit or specific places to see? We enjoy odd roadside attractions, good food, art, junk shops, cool small towns, plus of course beautiful scenery. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thank you!

Definitely stop at Calabash, NC, on the SC border. Absolutely great seafood.

Check out some beach music in Myrtle and North Myrtle Beach. If youre not familiar with the music, listen to 94.9 FM the Surf, streaming world wide.

Take the ferry across the Cape Fear River and visit Fort Fisher and Carolina Beach where I suggest a stop at Britt's Donuts dating back to the 1930s.

At some point in North Carolina, stop at a barbecue place.

Take the ferry from Cedar Island to the Outer Banks where you'll see the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse, the Lost Colony and the site of the Wright Brother's first airplane flight.
