Charlotte NC to Where???

Planning a road trip with my Friend in August. We will be starting out from Charlotte, NC and have 4 days. The only point of interest is Savannah GA and a beach. But completly open to anything. I've been to Savannah a few times and we can save that for another trip. I just moved to the Carolina's a few months ago, so I really dont know whats sitting all around me.

Please point me in the right direction.

Kelly, Why don't you this time for a cruise along the Blue Ridge Parkway and the Great Smokey National Park? Megan will be doing a field report from here in July and we will have some more info then. In the meantime, here are some threads about this area.

I forget those are there! Thank you!! I really want to check out the mountains out here.

Now, as a California girl, and only spending 2 summers in Texas, I am not yet aclimated to the humidity. And my friend is coming in from California and she has NEVER had a Southern Summer. So.. What would be worse for us? The beach or the Mountains?

If we take this trip up the mountains, is Mid August a good time to camp out in a tent? Or will we get eaten alive by bugs (BIG Phobia There)?? Do you need to make reservations for that?

I've never been camping either. I was told the beach in August isnt a good place to start my camping adventures.

And we are 2 younge females. Safe? Or would a hotel be better?
