Road Trip from New Hampshire to Eugene, OR!!!

My boyfriend and I are moving to Eugen, Oregon for school and need to leave at teh end of the December. We are trying to determine the most safe route there since it is is going to be prime snow season. I'm very nervous about the weather conditions we will be encountering and any suggestions on routes or tips of any kind would be greatly appreciated!!!!
