What's the quickest, safest route from Dallas to Sacramento?

I'll be driving from Dallas to Sacramento soon. I'm looking for the safest and most efficient route. I'm not interested in sightseeing. What's my best choice for a route?

Also, how long can I reasonably expect it to take me? Where would you recommend my stops for the night be?

Dan, Welcome to the Forum!

Most efficient route would be US-287 to Interstate 40 to CA-58 to I-5 to Sacramento. This would be a journey of 1750 miles and I would spend one night at Albuquerque and a night at either Kingman, Arizona or Barstow, California before finishing in Sacramento. It can be done safely in three days, I have done it faster, but I wouldn't recommend it.
