  1. Default Driving from PA to FL in a few days...

Hey all- I'm new to the fourms, and kinda new to road tripping. I've explored allot of where I'm from- NJ and PA area, pretty much, and have family down in Florida as well. I've done the drive from Jersey to Florida about 8 times, but allways did it on 95. (word removed)

I'm getting ready to take off again in a few days to spend the month of January down there, and wanted to know if there are any good spots to see along that route. Even if I'm off that route, I don't mind. I was thinking of visiting Shenandoah National Park on my way,but is it a good idea in January?

If theres anything else intresting along the way that people know about, tha'd be great.

    Thanks!

    Default East of I-95

Have you considered driving the coastal route... from Atlantic City to Miami. I found that a fantastic, albeit slow, route. Ever so scenic and interesting coastal towns and parks. I did it in summer with a few storms along the way. Am not sure what it would be like in January.

    Default or west of 95

A nice alternative to 95 if you are somewhat in a hurry is the I-81 to I-75 route into Florida. It is roughly 200 miles longer, or only about 4 hours.

If you are not in a hurry I definitely agree with taking the coastal route. Just be sure to include the outer banks of North Carolina if you go that route.

Here's a link to a more detailed description of the two general routes that Lifemagician and c&jw are recommending.

    Default Bbq

While in North Carolina, stop at a barbecue place and order some Carolina-style 'cue with cole slaw, hush puppies, and sweet tea.

Calabash, NC, on the SC border (just north of Myrtle Beach) has some mighty fine sea food.
