Please advise. I want to plan a trip flying into Vegas from Florida then drive to sequoia national. Anyone done this before? What are the must sees? Death Valley? Hoover Dam? Should I fly back from San franscico? I have about 7-8 days.

You can drive from Vegas to Sequoia in one long day on the road, if you drive direct via Bakersfield. That said, if you've got 7-8 days, you've got lots of options. Death Valley and Yosemite would be the other 2 major National Parks nearby, but you could also look at the California Coast, Lake Tahoe or a wide range of other options. Flying back from SF would be an option, although it's usually cheaper to do a loop and return to the city you flew into.
When will this trip take place? It could impact which roads over the mountains will be available to you.
I would look at heading across Death valley and up US395 and into Yosemite on the Tioga Pass [CA120] and then head south to Sequoia. From there you could head to Grand canyon and back to Vegas via Hoover Dam.
