I am an Australian and have long wanted to do a 3-6 month road trip around America taking in the sites and going at my own pace.
I've realised that unfortunately I won't have the time or money to do this until I retire, so decided to just go to America a few weeks at a time until I can do it all.
Today I had the realisation that I should just do a small road trip, and have since jotted down the following trip:
Trip Link
I love BBQ food, so really want to spend some good time in Texas. I'd love to see the music and food in New Orleans and the big aquarium in Atlanta. Florida looks good and Mobile was on the way.
For a 28 day trip, I have guestimated these costs (2 people):
A hire car about US$2300 for a Toyota Camry sized car
Return flights $2700 for two.
$2500 for hotels at $90 a night
$1500 for food at $60 a day
Petrol roughly $500
Figure $100 a day for other spending money = $2800
= rounded up $13,000
I'm conscious I have guessed the top end of costs in food, hotels and spending money.
I'd love to hear from you guys if my costs are about right, and if I have missed out on anything.
Also love to know of some things to do along the way and if there's any towns nearby the route to visit.
Cheers!
