    Default July-August Cross Country Roadtrip

    Hi there,

I'm planning a road trip this summer across the USA in July-August and am looking for a companion. All of my friends are married and/or have kids so they can't accompany me.

The trip starts on the East Coast--I live in NJ, unfortunately. For the most part, I plan on avoiding major interstate highways whenever possible, heading down the Mississippi along Highway 61 to New Orleans, then west across TX through the desert to the Grand Canyon. I have a friend in Moab, Utah, where there is great mountain biking and incredible natural beauty, so I hope to go there. Then west again to California and up the coastline to Portland and Seattle. Then back east.

About me, I'm a teacher, turned 40 in March, and have a 14 year old daughter. I'm divorced, so part of the trip involves delivering my daughter to my ex wife down in Memphis, TN. After that, the trip sheds its initial PG-13 rating. :) I'm a bit paradoxical in that I love running, biking, and hiking, and hope to do some of that along the way, but am also somewhat cerebral and enjoy a drink or two.

I also plan on buying a National Parks pass ($80 for admission to all national parks) and have a tent, so the trip will also involve camping.

If you are at all interested, drop me a line.

    Brian

  2. Default Coast to Coast

    Hi Brian
Im a 30yr old teacher from England.
I've been planning on doing a coast to coast trip this summer with one of my mates from over here but he is struggling finacially at the moment so has had to pull out of the trip.
I'm still well up for doing it though but dont fancy driving coast to coast single handed. Your trip looks fanatastic and I seem to have a pretty similar outlook to the trip as yourself. I'm really interested in taking in some of the culutural highlights on the trip and enjoy reading about American histroy etc but I also love a few beers and a good laugh from time to time.
If you are still on the look out for a driving buddy/friend for the trip then drop me a line.

DO YOU HAVE A RV ? I PAY FUEL AND FOOD ! PHILA TO APPALACHIA TO LA TO N. CALIF TO ? + BACK TO EAST COAST PHILA PA. What can you afford to spend? I am a 55 yr old vietnam era veteran non smoking sober open minded and spiritual type who traveled the USA from 2000 to 2004 in a minnie winnie winebago. I know all the roads. I had put on 70,000 miles on that trip. I do not own the RV anymore but we can rent one or buy one and resell it later on. I have to take with me my 87 yr old mother. She is in great shape and would love to see the USA before she passes. If your open to it let me know. I have funds enough to cover the fuel and food and i am a great cook. I am hoping to find someone who would buy or rent the RV. You can resell it afterwards. We might even find a RV to be delivered across the USA through one of the auto drive away delivery sites. I would like to go thru the appalachian mountains and go thru LA and see N. Calif and well and then i am open to anywhere else. I have been there so we won't get lost and i know how to drive a 24ft RV . Danie

PS: I don't care about your age. I don't need a bed for me just for my mom. I eat lots of salads and veggies and have lived in a RV for over 4 yrs and traveled 48 states from 2000 to 2004

Danie--I do not have an RV; I'm taking my car and packing the tent.

Danlufc--I tried to message you a couple of times about the trip. Sounds like you would make a good companion--you sold me on the beer part. Most American breweries do a spectacular job of brewing out all of the taste, so I can also guide you to some of the better (microbrew) beers. So if you are still interested, drop me a line.
