Florida to New York

Hi

I am making the trip from Orlando to NY and want to break the trip up into 3 parts. I will be leaving on Friday and getting there on Sunday. What are the best places to stop on this type of trip?

My criteria is:

1) Safe places to spend the night, with perhaps something interesting to see before heading out again.

2) Least amount of traffic.

3) Easy enjoyable ride.

4) Good places to stop and eat, along the way.

Night 1 - Charleston, SC. Then take I-26 to I-77 to I-81 instead of heading up I-95 into the heart of the traffic. Staunton, VA would be a logical 2nd stop. Then stay on I-81 to I-78 and take that into NYC.
