Great news, you won't regret it. The extra time at the Grand canyon is time well spent, it will give you time to explore around the village area and use the free shuttle bus to take in the views all the way to Hermits rest and with the extra time take a drive along desert view drive to the east entrance and the old watch tower with many views on the way.

Just a simple question TT. Have you made a reservation at the Grand Canyon?? Places will be booked far in advance but there always are cancellations. Please first try www,grandcanyonlodges.com and if no vacancy, call Xanterra directly. Also for your coastal drive, you're missing the best part from Monterey to Cambria along hw1. You also can drive from Cambria to Yosemite which will take 5+ hours depending on where you'll have to be. Don't miss this coastal drive. Nice accomodation near Cambria on Moonstone Beach. The 6 hours drive from Yosemite to DC is highly theoretically indeed. You definitely will spend longer.

I have indeed! Sadly not in the park itself, but only 2 miles south at Tusayan. That drive down to Cambria looks amazing - will definitely bear it in mind.
