Hey, Melbourne! My husband and I visited there a few years ago and it was our very favorite vacation ever! Such a great city and great people. I live in Las Vegas so if you'd like some specifics about anything here, let me know.

Have you looked at the latest articles on Living-Las-Vegas yet?

thanks for link Mark, I will have a good look through it
Hi queenomandy, where abouts did you go in Melbourne?
not sure where to start in Vegas, we are there for a lighting show for some of the time. Booked in at The Palms
wanted to see The Blue Man Group but from what I can tell the tickets were mega dollars which was a surprise
finding it hard to locate a gig guide. we are into alternative bands. Love The Killers but they will be out of town.
we are also thinking of getting hitched while we are there, any places you can recommend? have heard of the Chapel Of Love
I have been to several wedding chapels here in the Las Vegas valley. There are so many options for venues here it is pretty incredible. I was at one yesterday that really appealed to me. It's brand new and situated in the middle of a cactus nursery -- so many possibilities for photos and has an "out-there" feeling. Another one I like is the chapel at Montelago Village at Lake Las Vegas -- you can also get married in a free-fall ceremony from a plane, underwater at Lake Mead. The one at the Bellagio is very elegant. We are going to publish an article about the choices we know about -- that list is already at 265 and growing....

Three local writers cover that world -- one of them works for us -- makes me think we should publish such a guide... But in the meantime, I would suggest contacting Jason Bracelin at the Review-Journal -- I am sure he can refer you to the guide(s) he uses.

We stayed here.
We hung out in that area alot, just walking around, shopping, and eating. Then we learned the transit system and went over to the Crowne Plaza casino, a big flea market, St. Kilda and shopping on Church St.(I think) and that area. We also went to a Kiss concert at Rod Laver (my husband is a huge fan). We met these really nice aboriginie guys who told us Kiss was doing a smaller show the next night at this really small venue and we could get buy one get one free tickets. So, of course we had to do that too! I'm trying to remember where we ate - everywhere was so good, we still talk about this one place we stopped for breakfast. It was near our hotel in that big shopping area and it was down this little alley way. So good! We went to an italian place that was good, a place in chinatown, a mexican place right by our hotel, and this place called Monroes I think where we had kangaroo. Everything was excellent. It was cool how everyone eats outside, it reminds me of LA. Anyways, it was a great trip and my husband always says he wants to move there when he gets out of the military!
As for wedding places...the one you mentioned is a tacky little place just north of the strip. Most little chapels on the strip, unless in a hotel, are pretty cheesy, but if that's what you're looking for let me suggest The Little White Chapel. Long story short, my husband and I got married here (secretly) and then had a big traditional wedding about 6 months later. They have this cool drive through tunnel so you can actually get married in the car and I think you can even get a limo to pick you up, take you to get your marriage license, to the chapel, and then back to your hotel. It's all very cheesy and very Vegas. If you guys want something nicer and more traditional, look to the hotel chapels.
The palms is a great place to stay, lots to do just within the hotel. Go to the Ghost bar for a great view of the strip. Check out this broker, or ticketmaster for concert dates. Blue Man is a great show. Be on the lookout for discount tickets or check ebay when it gets closer for good prices.

Thanks for the replies
I emailed Jason re the gig guides, thanks
me thinks a wedding in an air-conditioned car with a glass of Champaign sounds good, won't it be like 40 deg in July/Aug?
Your Melb trip sounded good queenomandy. Melbourne has a reputation for good food. Not often I go into the city, we are about 30 mins drive out. Won’t mind missing 2 weeks of our winter, about 5-16 deg here at the moment. St Kilda used to be pretty rough, now it's "trendy"
Booked our Mustang covertable today for 2 weeks
Would any one know where to get the promo code for the Blueman Group ticket purchase please?
Hey Bucky not sure if your the same guy l know but l am ORSMXR from Melbourne.
My self and my wife went over 2 years ago and done sort of the same trip but started in Vegas and drove to San Francisco and then onto L.A. Also hired a Mustang convertable, the probs with this vehicle was it was a V6 not a V8 , not alot of baggage space as we had one large and 2 smaller bags, and also my back was killing me driving from Vegas to San francisco so have fun with that one....Dude if going to LA you have to do the Disneyland and universal studios it is a must. Also from here you can get a tour to Mexico and San Diego for Sea World.
Vegas was fantastic as it never sleeps so much to see like to outside shows the Casinos put on to entice you into their casino our favourite was the Tresure lsland casino.....But you will love it there and 4 days is not enough.
San Francisco you can't go past without going to Alcatraz also when staying in San Fran stay in and around union Square as this is the safest and cleanest area of San Fran....
If you want to catch up and talk about your trip and have look at some pics you welcome to come around and have a look.....
Cheers Chris
Hi ORSM4B, nope don't think I know you
bummer about the Mustang, looking back would you have not bothered with it? I guess leaving luggage on the back seat is not ideal
I thought Universal studios would be the go, didn’t some of it just burn down?
Yep, really looking forward to Vegas, we are into night life and bars etc
[well, we were before kids]
Still haven’t worked out what area's to go to in San Fran and L.A.
I have tried googling trendy night spot/restaurant areas [i.e. the St Kilda or Brunswick St equivalent in Melbourne] but I'm still unsure. I supposed we at least need to stay on the side of town that we will drive out of down the coast?
A bit nervous about driving on the other side of the road as well
I will have a search about union square
