Those With Dogs - What restraint do you use for long travel?

I'm debating on using a crate or a restraint for our puppy on our road trip. Which do you use? What brand?

I will have a 1 year old neutered male Cocker Spaniel with me.

I had seen the article in question before, but I was actually wondering what people really used rather than another article. Personal experiences with products provide a lot of worth.

My dog is 78 pounds and it seems to work fine. Of course, I've never been in an accident to have to test it, thank goodness. I don't have any idea of the brand. Just bought it at our local pet shop.

A friend with a smaller dog, a pug, uses a carseat. He places the carseat on top of a milkcrate so Pugsley is high enough up to be able to see out the window. Pugsley's food, etc. goes in the milkcrate. It seems to work fine but, like me, he's never been in an accident so it's hard to know for sure.

Every article published on this site is developed through personal experience. We've used pet seat belts for years and I recommend them -- every critter is strapped (human or otherwise) when I drive off-road!
