  1. Default Help! - Dallas to Legoland

Wow, this is an amazing message board!

We (family of 6 - mom, dad, 4 kids - 10, 9, 7 & 1) are planning on going to Legoland this summer. We have never taken a trip that will take us 2 days to get there and we don't know where to start looking for info on things to do along the way or even which route to take.

    HELP and thank you!!

    Default Welcome!

Welcome to the RoadTrip America Forum!

The trip to Carlsbad, CA from Dallas is about 1400 miles, which puts it at the three day mark more than the two day mark, especially when traveling with children. We have more resources for family trip at this link.

I gather you are looking for the easiest way to get to your destination - which would be I-20 to I-10 to I-8 then I-5. As far as things to do along the way - what kind of things are you and your family interested in? There are several national parks and monuments along that route.

    Yikes!

Well, we would definitely like to stop at anything historical, anything animal/insect related and of course we love to eat so anything fun & kid friendly.

    Thank you.

  4. Default Ps.

    Oops, I almost forgot....

Does anyone have any hotel recommendations for along the way and once we get there? THANK YOU.

  5. Default Dallas to CA

We are driving from Houston in July, but going all the way yo San Fran. We will be stoping at the Grand Canyon, Las Vegas, (there are things there for kids) Hoover Dam, and Tombstone AZ on the way back. Hope this helps..

Good luck with the kids....we are traveling with (3) teenages and I am worried about that

...so I can't give you any recommendations for hotels near it. However, you shouldn't have any problems finding hotels along the way. Chain hotels have standards and most will be just fine. But, yeah, you could run into a dud. You could always ask to see the room they are going to put you in before filling out the papers and paying. That way you can easily back out and head down to the next motel if it doesn't meet your standards. Enjoy!

My kids were great to roadtrip with when they were younger. Not so much when they were teens. Oh, there were still fun times but I had to remind myself that they were trying to pester me and make me crazy and that I shouldn't succumb to their tactics. ;)

I think one of the best ways to keep things happy is to allow everyone to have input on what to do, where to go, etc. on your trip. Allow your teens to be part of the planning process. Allow them to pick at least one, if not more, places that you'll be stopping at and exploring.

But, even so, be prepared for some eye-rolling and other wonderful teenage charms! My kids are now in their early 20's and I have been informed that they had far more fun on their trips with us during their teen years than they wanted to admit at the time. So relax in knowing that you're still helping to create happy memories even if you wouldn't know it by the attitude. Make sense?

    Enjoy yourself!
