What a stunning image that is ! Reports suggest that there is 60 inches of snow depth in Tuolumne meadows right now !

Does anyone know how the snowpack is compared to an average year? Im planning on driving the tioga pass heading from yosemite towards mammoth lakes on June 2. Im getting a little worried its not going to be open so i might need to look into an alternate route.
As you can see, we have a contest going about the opening of Tioga Pass. June 2nd is iffy at best. I can tell you, I've been to Yosemite 3 or 4 times in my lifetime and have yet to be able to drive across the pass. One of those visits was at the end of June one year and my dad was so bummed not to be able to drive it. (I was a kid back then.)
If it's not open, you only have two choices - cross to the north, or cross to the south.

Whereas the snow pack has a lot to do with the opening date, so does the CA budget. I have read where they delayed the opening to safe money on road crew operations.

Put simply, you are not going to know when it will open, pretty much, up to the time it is announced. The February 1st snow survey results figures show the Tuolumne drainage at about 124% of average, similar to 2010 when the pass opened June 5th. The above average temperatures for February have since returned and whether or not that's the pattern, or we see late winter storms, is anyone's guess.
Watch this space !
Okay thanks guys, i appreciate the info.
