Since this trip is in summer, I would suggest reservations at many of these campgrounds! You may already be too late to actually get a choice of where to camp in Yosemite, so you take what you can get -- the Pines campsites are down in the valley; Wawona Campground doesn't take reservations (to my knowledge). California State Parks in the redwoods and beaches also fill quickly in the summer. (Jedediah Smith SP is a great choice - loved that campground!)

    Thanks, Donna --
I've got reservations at most of the campgrounds, though I can change most without penalty this far in advance. I can't reserve at Yosemite until Feb. 15, and I'd love suggestions regarding which campground/good sites, etc. Glad to know that Jedediah Smith SP is a good one!

The 'Pines' campgrounds in the valley are a very good spot and the free shuttle bus service is great for getting around the valley and don't miss going up to Glacier point, it's amazing !
If you are planning to drive the historic Columbia river highway into Portland [which I would recommend] then you might look at travelling a little further than Bend. There is a lovely campground in Mt Hood National forest at the 'Lost Lake resort'. It's a bit of a way in and out [about 16 miles each way] but it's a pretty cool and peaceful place. I have not been to Fairview RV but we stayed at the Sandy River RV resort near Troutdale which was quiet, clean and tidy.

If you don't mind the extra bit of driving then I would break the journey between Portland and Vancouver with a side trip to Mount Rainier.

Manzanita Lake in Lassen is a nice campground.

That's great to know, Southwest Dave -- thank you! We will put Glacier Point on our itinerary and look into Lost Lake resort.
