Probably any WalMart west of the Mississippi and north of Texas would have brushes and scrapers. Auto parts stores as well.

My favorite material for winter is deicing spray. The stores sell aerosol cans of deicer which turns an ice coating into slush for easy removal (window squeegee).
The cheapskate approach is to use winter formula windshield washer fluid in a pump spray bottle. Brush the snow off, spray the fluid on the ice layer, wait a few moments then the ice will soften and can be removed easily. Works well to unstick wiper blades from ice - safer for the rubber than just pulling on them.

For us, we ask for them for Christmas gifts from our family members who live in the Midwest. They think we're crazy, but we've gotten them! I'm still using one in my car (for those frosty/icy mornings that we had last week) that was given as a dealership "gift" in a 1990 vehicle, when my in-laws bought it. We inherited the car, it had a wreck, but the ice scraper survived. It's just now going dull.

Take it to a local hardware store and see what they say when you ask them to resharpen it!

(For those in the viewing audience who have never seen or used an ice scraper - it is a plastic blade. Thus I was making a joke above. )

While at the hardware store one could purchase a couple of plastic putty knives which would do adequate service as ice scrapers. PLASTIC ONLY for ice scraping.

Why get them before you look like needing them. If you keep your eyes on the forecast, you'll know well before when you are going to need them. You could find that you have an incident free trip.

I just prefer to be prepared and equipped with safety and service items before hitting the road
rather than risk getting caught out in a freak storm in the middle of nowhere and I don't wanna be thinking about it on the trip, not for a few dollars. Each to their own though.

Also - if you wait till you hit a snowstorm before you get a scraper and brush, that's when they are going to be hard to find!

I agree. I'm actually going to put some staples in my suitcase for the flight to FLA.
