  1. Default Arkansas to Lake Tahoe

We are traveling from Northwest Arkansas to Olympic Valley, CA for Christmas vacation. We are not taking a traditional route, but instead adding a few hours for places we want to visit. We will first stop in Odessa,TX, then Phoenix, AZ, then Las Vegas, and from Las Vegas through Death Valley to Lake Tahoe. Does anyone have any advice on any fun stops in between these places?

Default A bit more information, please.

Hi, and Welcome to the Great American Roadtrip Forum.

To give relevant advice we would like to know how long you have for this trip, how many people are travelling and what do they regard as 'fun' stops?

The more information you can give, the more relevant the advice you will get.

We have around 2 weeks of vacation. We are spending many days(possibly up to 5) skiing in the Tahoe area so the road trip will not be the entire 14 days.
There are five of us 2 parents and 3 "kids" 17+.Anything that provides a chance to get out and stretch our legs a little bit between the drives. We like silly roadside attractions, awesome restaurants, historical places, and anything to do with sports.

Those first 2 days are going to be quite brutal for a family road trip, I would consider changing your stopping points and arrive in Phoenix on day 3 so you have a little time out of the car for 'fun stops'. The Grand canyon would be on most lists and from there you could take an old section of route 66 through Seligman to Kingman and enjoy the 'oddball' route 66 shops. Hoover Dam might be of interest on the way to Vegas. Vegas to Olympic Valley via Death valley would also be an extremely long day and that's before you get out the car in Death valley. Keep in mind that you could see poor weather just about anywhere along your route and disruption could make your travel days even worse.
