I am a homeschooling Mama of 2 and we are driving from Providence to Plattville WI in a week... Are there any educational side trips we can take along the way? Any must sees? Thanks!

Welcome to RTA.
Your route should take you along I-90, and Niagara Falls is close by. Everyone should see the falls at least once in their lifetime. I was born near there and know it like the back on my hand. If you have time to spend a whole day, visit Cave of the Winds and ride Maid of the Mist on the American side. You can actually walk from the overlook tower at Prospect Point all the way to Terrapin Point by the Horseshoe Falls and visit several sites along the way.
If you want an educational site near Niagara, go to Lockport, NY and take the Erie Canal Tour, which includes the locks there. The Herschell Carrousel Museum is also an educational place that the children will enjoy. It is in North Tonawanda.
All of these places are within 30 miles of each other, and that's just a small part of the trip. You can explore the Map Wizard on this website and find many more.
Thank you very much! :-)

Also along your route, and highly instructional, would be Old Sturbridge Village, Women’s Rights National Historical Park, Cleveland Museum of Natural History, Cuyahoga Valley National Park, Historic Sauder Village, Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore, and others. Clearly, you won't have time for everything, but hopefully one of those sites will fit in with their current studies.
Oh! And if you go to any national park, monument, historic site, lake or seashore, be sure to ask about their Junior Ranger Program - a great teaching tool that earns them some very nice souvenirs.

How long do you have to take this trip? Do you want the fastest route or would you like to avoid a lot of tolls?
we are planning to take 3 days to drive there... stay for a week and three days home.
Thanks for the Junior Ranger info!
