  1. Default Advice on camping/hiking NYS to Niagara Falls

    Hi all!

Need some advice on doing a hiking/camping trip from Long Island up to Niagara Falls and back. I'm thinking 1-2 weeks for the trip, and would like to know the best places to stop for the most worthwhile hikes along the way, as well as some campsite suggestions. My hiking history in the state doesn't extend past the Hudson Valley, so I would really like to see as much of the state as possible and definitely part of the Adirondacks on the way up or back!

    Thanks for the suggestion!

    Hi Slambo,

One of the most rewarding and fun hikes I've done is Mt. Lafayette in the White Mountains. I especially loved the long walk along the ridge and the exposed alpine summit. We stayed at a cute campground in Lincoln - name escapes me.

I would also suggest Catamount Mt. in the Adirondacks. That one is definitely not in the same category as Mt. Lafayette, but it is a lot of fun from what I remember and it involves some light bouldering. We also climbed neighbouring Mt. Whiteface, which is higher but not as rewarding from what I remember. We stayed at a local KOA which was not very well maintained and noisy.

    Hope this helps!

Watkins Glen State Park in the Fingers Lakes Region is a beautiful hike through a gorge and following a stream, waterfalls that you walk under and behind, and over 800 steps. Nice campground there too.
