Understood. We are looking at a 4 week trip total.

We are planning on stopping only in the major cities, Washington D.C., New York, New Orleans for more than just pass through. Most of the other stops will be limited to just food, and a few sights.

We are re-thinking doing all 48 on this trip just due to the season we are leaving. But still going to try and hit the most we can.

I planned on doing 8 hours a day driving on average. Hopefully we can do more some days when the weather is good, and bank some time.

You will want to get on the road reasonably early each day as the daylight hours are shorter this time of year and you don't get to see much in the dark and you are more likely to come across ice as the temps drop and there is less traffic through the night.
