Medora, ND - 1 or 2 nights?

In mid-August we will be passing through Medora, ND en route from Bismarck to Billings, MT. We plan to stay at least 1 night, maybe 2, in Medora. This is part of a larger road trip from CA to Colorado, Wyoming, Nebraska, SD, ND, Montana, Idaho, etc. Except for the first few stops in Colorado and Wyoming, we will make hotel reservations a few days in advance of each stop when we have a better idea of what day we'll arrive.

Knowing Medora is a very popular tourist attraction with a lot to see and do, we are wondering how many days we should plan to stay, and if we'll be able to find lodging by calling a few days before our arrival. We will have our bicycles with us so do not need a fancy high-end motel.

It will be just my husband and me, and our bicycles. Thank you!

Never having stayed there, I am not in a position to offer much advice. However, it is in a lovely area with the TRNP right there.

It would be easier to offer meaningful advice if we had the full picture of the whole trip. (As it is, it is like doing a jigsaw puzzle and seeing just one piece.)

Besides the obvious: Theodore Roosevelt National Park, some other nearby sites that might be of interest to you include: the Chateau de Mores State Historic Site, a local (and historic) burning coal vein, Sully Creek State Park, and the Dakota Dinosaur Museum in nearby Dickinson. Which of those you'd like to visit, and for how long, is entirely up to you.
