Denver, Co to Orlando, FL: what sites are interesting along the way

Hello everyone,

What a great site. Going from Denver, CO to Orlando, FL in anywhere from 3 to 6 days, one way, two to three weeks total. What is of interest along the way without to much of a detour from the main path? Planning the northern route on the way out, I-70/I-75, etc. and to swing through New Orleans on the way back.

It's going to take a shade over three days each way for both the drive down to Orlando and the one back, so as long as you can devote four days or more to each leg, you should have sufficient time to visit some of the sites along the way. An the way down, I'd start by looking at what's available in St. Louis, and even though it's not on the direct route a detour to Mammoth Caves National Park might be in order. Then, of course, there are the Civil War sites around Chattanooga and Andersonville GA, FDR's Little White House in Warm Springs, and Okefenokee Swamp. On the way back look into stops at Cedar Key, crossing the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway, the old State House in Baton Rouge, the Sixth Floor Museum in Dallas, and Cadillac Ranch outside Amarillo. All of those are in addition to the sites right along the highway.

Thank you. This is precisely the information I was looking for. Though St. Louis had been mentioned in another post, all the others are new information for me. I really enjoy national parks and will most probably work Mammoth in. We are blessed with caverns here in the Colorado Springs area and I always enjoyed taking my children through them at least once a year.
