Day trip in eastern NC

Hey all,

I'm planning on doing a single-day trip from Chapel Hill, NC to the hope plantation in Windsor, NC (google map here). I've never really been to eastern NC, so I'd like to take a long scenic route. don't mind if it takes all day - there's a couple of us. I'd particularly like to see old tobacco fields and the landscape.

Any suggestions?

It won't take all day, but a pleasant route to your destination that includes at least one site that fits your desires would have you bypassing Raleigh to the west and south on NC-55 and NC-42 to the junction with NC-222 which will take you to Kenly and the Tobacco Farm Life Museum. From there, US-310/US-264/NC-111 will take you around Wilson and put you back on NC-42 which will bring you into the area west of Windsor and the Hope Plantation.
