  1. Default trip to Eastern Pennsylvania

First timer here, looking for a little advice:
In a week or so, I'm going pile into my car in Long Island and head to Jim Thorpe, PA and then Hickory State Park. Any suggestions for a nice route to get there? How is i-78? At all scenic? Any thougths for nice drives around there, please feel free to let me know. Thanks

Default Look at I-80 and US-209

Welcome aboard the RoadTrip America Forums!

I don't think there's anything particularly wrong with I-78, and you pretty much have to use either it or I-80, and both of those routes will have you in the New York 'metropolitan area' for most of your drive. So I would try to maximize the beauty and interest of the western portions of your drive, and to me that means I-80 to the southern end of the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area and then using US-209 to Jim Thorpe. Besides the Gap, you might also want to check out Beltzville State Park.

the exit for 209 is 304 off of I-80. It is with 33 also and you are going to have to get off 33 when 209 separates from it. There have been several fatal accidents on that road between I-80 and Broadheadsville, so keep aware. They have all been at night, though. I go up there every other weekend from western NJ. I practically live there. 209 after Broadheadsville is a nice road. It's only windy when it gets to the PA turnpike. The Meadowbrook Diner is a nice small diner. It is open only until 2 and isn't much to look at from the outside but the food is good and at a great price. Also, Country Junction claims to be the world's largest general store. That's on 209 as well. There are a couple of nice used book stores in Broadheadsville as well. Luna Rosa is a great restaurant. Two personal thin crust margarita pizzas for $10. They definitely taste better than $5 pizzas should taste.
