Roadtrip from Baltimore to Atlanta

Hello,
I am planning a roadtrip this summer with my boyfriend from Baltimore, MD to Atlanta Georgia. I'm going to be spending a few months living in Atlanta for school so he is going to drive down with me and then fly back. I'm looking for suggestions on places to stop/stay, interesting attractions. We are planning on taking 3-4 days for this 12 hour trip, taking less time isn't a problem. The trip will be taking place on weekdays in the beginning of May. I am open to any suggestions/tips for this experience.

Hello charvey,

It would be helpful for some insight as to activities you enjoy. Are you museum/concert oriented or paddler/mountain bike/hiking oriented, or both? There are lots of options for enjoying the Blue Ridge Mountains and adjacent areas on a leisurely trip from Balto to ATL.

We're both interested in both, museums/history things and hiking. Probably won't be able to do much that requires a lot of equipment like biking because my car will be filled with the things I need while moving.
I've been using this site, the thread on east coast trips was really helpful. I'm thinking about making stops in Lexington, Va and Charlotte, NC. That would split the drive up into roughly three, 4 hour sections.
