  1. Default new york 1 week round trip

    Friends,

I am heading for a week long road trip (Monday to Friday) in the first week of September. It will be a round trip from New York.

Initially I was thinking of New York to Niagara Falls and back.
But what to do and where to stay on the way for nightlife and/or cool things to do or see?
I would love to see a National Park, I would love to get a water sport in.

Alternatively I have heard a lot about Atlantic City and Delaware as cool places to visit and would consider a southbound trip instead.

Could anyone please advise or even suggest great trips 4-500 mile max round trip from NY.

Many thanks in advance, mo chairde.

    Default More Than Two Alternatives

Céad Míle Fáilte! Welcome aboard the RoadTrip America Forums!

A week from New York City will get you quite a bit farther than you're assuming, or not. Actually, Niagara Falls doesn't actually fit within your stated range of 500 miles round trip from New York, but it would certainly be an easy one day drive there. Using that as the criterion for where you can get to, most of New England, the Virginias, or even French Canada are within reach. Given your desire for a national park, a water theme park, and some nightlife I'd suggest that you look at a loop that would include Washington, Cleveland and then a return to New York. Along such a drive are venues such as Shenandoah National Park, Cuyahoga Valley National Park. and Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area. Water and amusement parks are actually fairly common around major cities, and should not be too hard to find, but there's a classic old-school amusement park, Cedar Point, in Sandusky, OH, the rock and roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, and of course the Maid of the Mist at Niagara Falls. Now that may involve more driving than you initially had in mind, but it's quite doable in a week and would certainly let you see a good cross section of the country.

Go raibh míle maith agat, bhí an chuid chomhairle iontach ansin.
A lot of good suggestions there, thank you.

As a novice I would feel that's a little ambitious driving 3-400 miles or more per day.

What would you recommend for a more leisurely and direct (yet still a loop - not there and back) drive to the falls and back?

    Default A Shorter Loop

If you want less driving, then check out this discussion of a possible loop from New York City to Niagara Falls and back. I realize that it's a bit sketchy on actual roads, but if it sounds like something you'd enjoy, we can always take care of details later.
