Help wanted: Advice on Two-week Northwest Roadtrip

Hello again everyone. I couldn't come back earlier because my weeks become busier as my vacation/roadtrip time approaches. :)

So, I keep narrowing down the locations to allow more enjoyment in each and not just say "Okay, I've been here, now what?". However, a crucial question remains (since all your recommendations apparently are good):

If anyone here would have to choose 3 states from these 6 due to time constrains (Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, South Dakota), which ones they would be?

Also, I'm finding some rooms in those sites you mentioned, but yeah, they are not coming as cheap as I expected. At least it seems that I will have more money for this trip than what I originally expected.

I'd spend as much of the time as you can in Utah. There are more national parks and regional parks here than just about any other state in the country. I know Utah is not on your list, but driving times from your home would seem to make Utah a far more reasonable choice. If you hammered down from Illinois you could spend most of 7-8 days exploring the parks and meander your way home through Colorado before hammering down again.

It's not the NW, but ....

For me it would be Colorado... I could spend a month there, and still not get to see and do all I would like to. It's even closer than Utah.
