New York September Wedding followed by 2 week road trip?

HI,

I'm looking for ideas on where to take a 2 week road trip in September, after my fiancee and I tie the knot in NYC. We got engaged in the middle of the Brooklyn Bridge, so the place is really special to us.

Ideally, we're thinking of having 4 or 5 days in New York (1 before the wedding, get married on day 2 and then have 2-3 days there) and then taking a 12-13 day road trip.

I'm after advice on where to go and what to see, given our timescale. I think initially we'll go south, heading to Philadelphia and Washington (good idea?) but from there we're stumped with what to do.

Flying in between detsinations isn't out of the question either, so where would be best to experience? I think we'd like at least 1 actual day in each exciting place and not just arrive at night and leave the next morning if you catch my drift.

Since you are willing to fly, basically everywhere is available to you. That means there really isn't any way for us to start narrowing things down.

Are you from NY? If you are, I might use this opportunity to go elsewhere, like California, the southwest, or perhaps Yellowstone, Glacier, and/or the northwest.

If not you might build on your plan to go down to Philly and DC, and keep going to the Carolina Coast and/or the Smokey Mountains. You might also work back up to Niagara Falls and/or New England.

The great thing about September travel is that there are very few restrictions on where you can go, as it is past peak travel time, but before winter moves in. The only real potential weather problem would be Hurricane Season in the Southeast/Carribean, and that's a small enough risk that I wouldn't let it keep me from making plans if that's where you want to go.
