Visiting North East USA from UK

Hello everyone, this is my first post on this site.

Having mooched around it for a few days I thought I'd sign up and say "Hi". Hi. :-)

My girlfriend and I are looking to visit the North East for a couple of weeks in the middle of the year. Flying into New York. My rough plan is a week in NYC, then off to Buffalo for a week.

We did New England for a couple of weeks last year (Boston -> Maine -> Vermont -> NH -> Cape Cod -> Boston) and it was amazing - I hired a new Camaro and it was AMAZING too (if you're into that sort of thing)! New England is just like old England; sort of. ;-)

So, my questions: I understand New York state has some excellent parks and places to go (on the trip from NYC to Buffalo) but is there anything specific people would recommend? Or would I be missing anything bypassing PA?

Also, aside from the Falls, what else is there in/near Buffalo?

New York has the amazing mountains of the Adirondacks. If you're into hiking, it's a great place to spend some time going to some of the highest peaks in the eastern United States. Pennsylvania has a lot of industrial history, including coal country and the railroads. Horseshoe Curve near Altoona is a nice place to spend some time watching trains going around the mountain while having a little picnic.

If you go through New York I would recommend the Adirondacks, Finger Lakes region, and Letchworth State Park as great places to visit.

In Buffalo, I would check yelp.com for restaurant reviews (or other review sites). We have great variety in dining here. Elmwood Ave. and Allen are great little areas with restaurants and local shops, Delaware park is also nice for a walk. If you google Buffalo/Niagara tourist or visitor you should be able to find sites and suggestions for other places that might interest you. You can even take walking historic tours to learn more about some of our great architecture. I would also suggest checking out Lake Erie (it is one of the great lakes) which Buffalo and it's southern suburbs are right next to. There are some good beaches and sunsets.

Excellent, thank you very much. I like the look of the Finger Lakes, they look very nice. It might be a little bit of a cliché, but I'd like to see a baseball match (I used to play for Cambridge in the UK, many many years ago). I presume there's a few options available to me :-) Guideance would very much be appreciated.

I'm looking into it all a little more this weekend and hope to post my itinerary shortly.

There are lots of options for baseball.

Major Leagues, you've got New York Yankees and Mets.

There are lots of Minor League teams throughout the New York and the Northeast, with Buffalo, Rochester, and Syracuse having AAA teams, and lower level ball in other towns.

If you are going to be in upstate NY, you may want to visit the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown. This is a "must" for any baseball fan.
