5-6 Day trip from WI to Cali? Southern route

I can relate to that - I get $25 rooms at Harrah's in Laughlin simply by having a Total Rewards card and booking a Hot Deal in advance. I have also heard of people coming in off the street and getting the same deal. For a quickie overnight, I'd much rather do Laughlin than Vegas.

Be careful what Google, etc. says to get from I-40 to SLO. My mapping program sent me through LA - and when I added Bakersfield as a stop, it tried to send me over a very winding road from there to 101. CA-46 is a good way to get across the coastal range.

Looks like I might get a free room even on T-day, but I want to explore, and a good ol' casino is always great. I like Bill's next to the Flamingo in Vegas, mostly because of the Seattle's best coffee, cheapest and best in Las Vegas. I would walk over there when I would stay at the Bellagio. Last time in , I stayed at the Flamingo, and it was perfect for it's proximity to my coffee and a penny slot that I was having a blast on!!!

If you are going to go to LV, check the weather and road conditions - taking I-80/I-76/I-70/I-15 will cut 200 miles off the trip.
