Default Pittsburgh to Orlando, need some help with latter part of trip

Hi! My husband, daughters (ages 4 and 2) and I are planning a trip for December of this year. The plan is to drive from Pittsburgh to Hiawassee, GA, stay overnight, drive part of the Russell-Brasstown National Scenic Byway the next day and do some sightseeing in and around Helen, GA and perhaps go to Babyland. For the rest of the drive I'm stuck on interesting little short side trips (I'm thinking, stopping in a small town at an interesting eatery for a meal ... along those lines) or scenic routes from Helen to Orlando. Thanks for any suggestions!

    Default Ooops !

Hello and welcome to the RTA forums.

I am afraid I am not of much use for giving travel advice in this particular area, but hopefully someone will be along to help soon. I would however like to apologise for the belated welcome as we normally say "Hi" as soon as we can to our new members and you seem to have slipped through the net.

If you haven't had a chance to look around the RTA site just yet you will find lots of road tripping tips and routes in the tool bars above and you can search the forums for tips by using the search function in the top right hand corner of the page and by scrolling down to where you will find "similar threads".

Hello and thanks! I have posted here a few times before, so no need to apologize.

I have written up a tentative plan, mostly covering Georgia. I think we're going to stop in Jackson at High Falls State Park, then Macon to see the Indian Mounds. Probably stay overnight there and drive the rest of the way to Orlando the next day, stopping at the botanical gardens in Gainesville Florida to break up the trip. I would love to see a labyrinth!

If anybody has any other suggestions that'd be great. I swear I bookmarked a page somewhere that talked about a lesser known eatery in GA that has excellent diner type food and shakes and is in a railroad car, but I just can't find it, and a search only turns up a sushi place. What a bummer! (I love sushi but the rest of the family does not.)
