  1. Default Denver taking hwy 80 to Sacramento?

    Hi all,

I am wondering if anyone has driven the hwy 80 from Denver, Colorado to Sacramento, CA.

I want to know if the hwy 80 is curvy and do you go through high mountains where there are big drops? We will be pully a big trailer and I don't like curvy high drops...so can anyone tell me if this is a pretty smooth ride?

    Thanks,

    Danielle

    Welcome to the RTA Forum!

I assume you mean I-80, which you'd get to by taking I-25 up to Wyoming, and that is your best bet for this trip. All interstates are built for cross country truck travel, so they have limits to both the grades and the curves. You will still be going over some mountains, and of course, you should be downshifting as you come down the hills to allow your engine to do the braking work, but the fact is there is no way to get between those two point without crossing both the Rockies and the Sierras.

One detour you can take to avoid one significant mountain grade is to take I-84/I-15 around Salt Lake City, which is an easier route than sticking to I-80, but otherwise, you really don't have a better option.
