roadtrip from cali to mississippi

Well were doing a roadtrip from modesto, ca to gulfport mississippi. Would love suggestions of fun things to see such as big yarn ball and so forth. I took this trip once and we went on the I40 but I really did not see anything along the interstates like that. I have a 3 year old along with me and want to find things like that to do. I want to go along the I 40 or the one along the bottom of the states. Please any ideas would be great.

Fun to a 3 year old can be as easy as having a stop to run around whether it be in a city playground or a State park and here you can find a list of R&R breaks along the Interstates.

Much will depend on how long you have for the trip and what your interests are as you haven't mentioned either other than 'quirkey' stops. There are many possibilities and if it's a round trip it would make sense to take one route out and a different one on the way back for a change of scenery.
