California to Colorado

A friend and I are heading to Colorado from California in August. We will be going through Utah on our way. (taking I-80 to US-50 to the 70 as that seems to be the nicest route to take)
Does anybody have any recommendations on anything?...things to see, places to stop, good eats, good shopping/ antiques, line dancing maybe ;], and/or places to stay the night? (we'll even take camp grounds)
We are open to any and all suggestions! Thanks guys!

I assume you are starting somewhere in northern California. Have you considered taking Hwy 50 the Loneliest Highway in America though Nevada instead of Hwy 80?

You have attractions like Grimes Point Petroglyphs, Sand Mountain, old mining towns like Austin, Eureka, Ely, Pony Express Stations, Hickison Petroglyphs and you come very close to Great Basin National Park in NV.

In Utah you have a few choices depending on how much time you have. You could swing down to Capitol Reef National Park but then you would miss the San Rafeal Swell on I-70. Moab is an excellent place if you have a couple of days. Arches and Canyonlands National parks. Even if you want to just drive though, take the short detour down to Moab, Utah on hwy 191 and continue back to I-70 on Scenic Byway 128. There is BLM camping along the Colorado River here.

Once in Colorado you can take a short detour to Colorado National Monument. Driving I-70 to Denver is one of my favorite interstate drives!

Thanks a bunch =] we only have 1 week to get there spend time and come back, and yes, I'm leaving from the Modesto area. But I'll def check out Hwy 50.

Since this is a round trip, you could do one route one way and come back the other.
