I am posting for a friend who wants to drive(return trip) Arizona from San francisco for 5 days during x'mas holidays. Any suggestions for route/attractions on the way/motels/restuarants?

This is always a tough sort of question -- because without knowing a bit more about what the traveler is looking for the possibilities are endless. But a trip down the Pacific Coast Highway is pretty great. The "open-sea" tank at the Monterey Aquariuim is one of the wonders of the modern world.
