Hello,
Due to budget and time restrictions, I will be driving from North Carolina to Cape Cod, MA on the 4th of July weekend instead of flying. My plan right now is to leave early Thursday morning, drive up I-95 to somewhere in NJ, stop for the night, leave early Friday AM and take I-287 around NYC and go back on I-95 until we exit for the Cape. I made this road trip three years ago on the weekend of the 4th and have fond memories of being stuck on I-95 in NYC for four hours due to road construction and just the general horror of holiday traffic.
Any recommendations on route choice? I know there is a western route north of DC that brings you around Philly and NYC and into Boston on I-90, my concern is that the highways between Boston and the Cape on Friday afternoon will be a parking lot. I am flexible in leaving anytime Thursday and can arrive on the Cape anytime on Friday...I do not mind driving at night and even considered driving all night if that would be better.
Is I-287 the better choice around NYC or will it be a holiday weekend parking lot as well? I don't mind toll roads if they can get me to my destination quicker. Also, I will be six months pregnant during this trip so any tips on pregnant road trips are welcome:)
Thanks so much!
