  1. Default LA to Vegas - alternate routes? NOT I-15!!!

Anybody know of any Los Angeles to Las Vegas routes that DON'T involve using the 15 most of the way? Obviously anything else is a longer drive, but it would be nice to get a little change of scenery...Barstow and Baker seem to lose their charm after the first 3 or 4 dozen times...=0)

Default I can't vouch for the scenery

I've never driven this before but what about I-10 to between Banning and Palm Springs, then 62 east, and then north on 95? It looks like it might be a quiet road taking you through relatively quiet areas. It's about 400 miles vs. the 275 of I-15.

Default Sure, if you have time

    Welcome to the RTA Forum!

Of course there are other routes, but all of them are going to take quite a bit more time. You could take I-10 or I-40 out to the Arizona border and then work your way north along the Colorado River.

You could also go up CA-14 or US-395 towards Death Valley and then make your way east to Las Vegas.

Those would really be the two obvious and easy detours, although again they would both be a fair bit longer than I-15.

I dunno, I have driven I-15 between Las Vegas and Los Angeles nearly one hundred times in the last few years. I ALWAYS see something I had not noticed before on these runs. One of these days, I will "put my nose to the grindstone" and get this book written and published. There is a plethora of historical and geologic wonders every mile of that route. You do have to want to notice however....

There are about ten different roads between LA and Las Vegas -- pick up a Benchmark map of California and get started exploring some of them.
