  1. Default NYC to Miami need lots of help

    hey just stumbled upon this great website, so much here.

    anyway, i was trying to plan a road trip, i am starting in NYC and need to end in Miami, so its all one way.

    now i cant decide if i should stick to the east coast and do all the states on the coast or drive out to chicago and go along the missisipi

    is there what to do? its me and three friends, and well i don't know where to go, we want to to a mix of camping while still going to large cities also.

    can any one share a great route for a 13 day road trip?

    Thanks
    Mike G

    Default Lots of Choices

    Welcome to the RTA Forum!

    A decision on which way you end up going is going to depend upon what you want to see. If you've never been out towards the midwest and you don't mind a big loop for this trip, then going out towards Chicago first could work. 13 days certainly gives you enough time for that. However, if you want to spend less time driving and more time exploring individual areas, then you should probably stick to a more direct coastal type route.

    As far as camping and cities. Keep in mind, those two things are not mutually exclusive. If you want to be in the heart of a city, you'll have to go with hotels, but if you're willing to "commute" 30 or so miles, you can usually find good camping choices near most major cities.

    thanks, and yea i know i cant camp in the cities, lol

    lemme ask you guys a question, i need some help convincing my friend, he wants to do more staying in one place and then go on, i want to see as much as possible, and go places i have not gone before, (the midwest, i've done the east coast already and had a blast, time to change it up for me) and well how do convince him? how do i tell him that we will still have a great time in chicago for 2 days, even though we will miss alot of what the city has to offer?

    thanks

    Default I don't think that is the "right" question

    Hmmm. I think the better question is: Is this the right person for you to travel with? Those seem to be rather divergent points of view. I am always going to "side" more with the viewpoints similar to your friend. In my universe, "less is always more".

    I really urge both of you to take our Quiz and talk about the results with each other!

    Um, I think you completely missed my point here. While you won't be able to camp downtown, there are many places - including Chicago - where you can camp on the outskirts of the city.

    As far as the rest of your question goes, I would agree with the Editor. I tend to travel more with your style, taking a quick view of places and then moving on, but if your potential travel companion is not of that same view, you could be setting yourself up for a disappointing time on the road.

    Default Along the way

    Hi Mike,

    Here are some must sees along your planned route. Some require some detours :

    Suggestions from NYC to Niagara;
    Delaware Water Gap, PA-NJ;
    1000 Islands Region;
    Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, OH
    American Classical Music Hall of Fame, Cincinnati, OH
    Things to do between ME and Key West, FL
    ;
    D.C.;
    Historic Harper's Ferry, WV;
    Great Smoky Mountains National Park,
    Shenandoah NP VA
    Blue Ridge Parkway;
    50 fun things to do in Atlanta;
    Savannah, GA;

    Jackson, FL
    I assume you mean Jacksonville, FL? Or maybe Jackson, Mississippi?

    Happy planning!
