Thread: SF to Chicago

  1. Default SF to Chicago

    Hi all,

First time road-tripper - I'll be driving from San Francisco to Chicago at the end of August. Probably straight on I-80. Any tips on places/cities to definitely stop along the way? I'll probably take 5-6 days so there's some downtime. Thanks in advance for your help!

    Default Western I-80

Welcome aboard the RoadTrip America forum.

San Francisco to Chicago is only about 2150 miles by I-80, so with 5 or 6 days to make the trip you will only have to make 350-400 miles per day and will, indeed, have some time to see a few things along the way. The major attractions on I-80 (or not too far from it) would include the Lake Tahoe area, Great Salt Lake, Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area, Rocky Mountain National Park, some of the landmarks and historic sites along the old Oregon Trail, and the Amana Colonies in Iowa. Have a look at some of those to get you started on looking at what's available along I-80
