Big summer parties?

Me and two of my friends were thinking of heading to Texas or the deep south this summer, we want see a different part of the continent (were from Vancouver, BC). Thing is, were looking for a destination area, but we want to go somewhere where something is going on. Were looking for something like a huge music festival or just general party area like mardis gras or spring break in florida type of scene. Anyone have any suggestions?

Welcome to the Great American RoadTrip Forum! There are several choices -- I think if you can stand the heat -- I would go to Key West -- my memories of the place are somewhat shrouded by a rum-drink haze -- but it seems like the parties start about 10:00 am and extend into the wee, wee hours. A word of advice--- if you hang with the commercial fishers as I did (great dock-side bars) don't dangle your feet in the water to cool off -- sharks and fishing boats are geographic-specific -- I had a very close encounter with a six-foot specimen looking for a snack... But I digress.

Let's see in mid-June in Manchester Tennessee you can party all night with jam band music at the Bonnaroo Music Festival. If you don't mind a little mud, the Foggy Hollow Bluegrass Gatherin' is pretty cool near Wellington, Alabama. And one event that I have always wanted to attend is the Galax Fiddling event in Virginia August.
