Thinking about going from the flat, windy Jackson Purchase area of Kentucky to them thar hills. Taking about 5 days or so. Anyone done it? Will The Outlaw Boyd Crowder chase me out? Safe, Fun?

Welcome aboard the RoadTrip America Forums!
I'm sorry, but it's not really clear what you're asking (for). Yes, I understand that you plan on traveling from (roughly) the Mississippi to the Appalachian Mountains, and that you plan to primarily use a two-lane state road. But you do realize that Boyd Crowder is a fictional character, no?
Seriously, I love traveling smaller roads such as KY-80 and have driven though this area, although not specifically on KY-80. I think you're in for a great time. With five full days to drive a distance that could be covered in as little as an easy single day, you'll have time for major sights such as the Land Between the Lakes and Mammoth Cave (and I think that the Green River Ferry in the park would fit well with your relaxed pace), smaller venues such as Pennyrile Forest State Resort Park and Levi Jackson Wilderness Road State Park, as well as areas a bit south of your route such as Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area and Cumberland Gap National Historic Park.

LOL, yes I know Boyd is a work of fiction. But fiction has it's roots in real characters and I don't want my car battery stolen =)
Thanks, you added quite a bit of side trip ideas, my wife was concerned we wouldn't have enough to do and see on such a trip.
BTW, there is a Hilton Brand in nearly every town we'd stop at. Planning on using points for the stays.
