Default Senior firstimer planning 2 mths coast to coast and back..suggestions!!!

I am a UK resident and planning his first time in the USA..Road trip. The plan is to see as much as possible in the 2 mths we are allowing. The first thoughts are to go Coast to Coast and then back by a different route of course.
We would hope that we can capture as much of the history and culture of USA with the countryside ie National parks and landscape the
theme of the trip as apposed to site-seeing the cities. We are considering starting the trip in Feb 2014 but have no issue or restrictions on the timing .
We would appreciate all the help we can get to plan this 1 off visit .

    Default Getting started.

Hello and welcome to the RTA forums !

If you have any specific questions we can help you with then please ask. For general planning I would suggest getting a good size map of the USA and do plenty of reading and research to see what sites appeal to you and your travel companion[s]. You will have to work on your budget and ensure that everyone who is included can meet the minimum requirement of time and finance. If you are under 25 years of age you will have a daily young drivers fee added to the cost of your rental and it will apply to each individual under 25 who wants to drive. That in itself can become expensive, especially over such a long period. It's rare that anyone under the age of 21 will be permitted to drive. A lot of initial plans alter a lot from the 'daydream' stages of planning, but don't let that discourage you. It's possible to have a great time even if ends up being for a couple of weeks or so on a smaller scale.

You might get better deals in February, but travelling in May/June may be more enjoyable with less risk of poor weather.

Have a good look around the RTA site and read up on all sorts of things from routes to budgeting to lodging options and so on.
